[Solved] Answer Keys of Math Questions of Postal/Sorting Assistant Examination 2013 (Date- 5th May, 2013)

Now you can easily check the fully solved Answer keys of the ‘Math’ questions of the Postal/Sorting Assistant Examination (India Post), which was held on 5th May, 2013.


As I promised earlier, today I’m providing the Answer keys of the ‘Math’ questions of the Postal/Sorting Assistant Examination (India Post). The minimum cut off marks of each section 10

So, here are the all 25 questions, and there complete solutions, as per my best knowledge. I hope you all will like it. 1. In an office there are 75% skilled workers and remaining are Unskilled. 80% of skilled workers and 20% of unskilled workers are permanent. If number of temporary workers is 189, then what is the number of total workers?



Ans: 540.

2. Raman crosses a road 375 metres wide in 75 seconds. His speed in km/hr is:

Ans: 18.

3. The average of 5 consecutive numbers A, B, C, D and E is 48. What is the product of A and D?

Ans: 2254.

4. The height of a wall is six times its width and the length of a wall is seven times its height. If volume of the wall be 16125 Cu. m., its width is:

Ans: 4 m.

5. A container of oil was 4/5 full. When six bottles of oil were taken out and four bottles of oil were poured into it, it was ¾ full. How many bottles of oil were contained by the container?

Ans: 40.

6. Ranjeet wages were reduced by 50%. Again the reduced wages is increased by 50%. What is his loss/gain?

Ans: Loss 25%.

7. What value will obtain if 25% of 2340 is subtracted from 4/9 of square of 36?

Ans: -9.

8. In a class the highest marks scored were 67 and lowest were 32. While calculating the average of the marks these were erroneously written as 76 and 23/ The average of marks of the class will:

Ans: Remain unchanged.

9. A customer wanted 30% discount on his purchase. The dealer gave him successive discounts of 20% & 12%. The customer got discount:

Ans: Less than what he wanted.

10. A, B, C, D are mid points of the rectangle. AB=10 cm. If one of the sides of the rectangle is 12 cm, what is the area of ABCD?

Ans: 96 sq cm.

11. In a History examination, the average for the entire class was 80 marks. If 10% of the students scored 95 marks and 20% scored 90 marks. What was the average mark of the remaining students of the class?

Ans: 75.

12. Sixty men can build a wall in 40 days, but though they begin the work together, 5 men quit every ten days. The time needed to build the wall is:

Ans: 47.5 days.

13. A factory producing a certain number of cars a day finds that by increasing production efficiency by 12 ½ % they can produce 20 additional cars a day. How many cars will they produce in a day when their efficiency is 25% less?

Ans: 120.

14. A shop owner gives a discount of 10% on the marked price of a radio, but in the bargain makes a profit of 10%. If the marked price is Rs. 330/-, the cost price is rupees:

Ans: None of These. (267.3)

15. Pipe A can fill an empty tank in 5 hours and pipe B in 7 hours. If both the pipes are opened together and after 1 ½ hours pipe B is closed, how much time A will take to fill the remaining tank?

Ans: 17/7 hours.

16. A number consists of two digits whose sum is 9. If 27 is added to the number, its digits are reversed. Find the number?

Ans: 36.

17. Two numbers are such that the ratio between them is 3:5. If each is increased by 20 the ratio between the new numbers so forms is 7:9. Find the original numbers:

Ans: 15, 25.

18. Arjun and Aryan can finish a project in 27 days. Arjun alone can do 1/3 of this project in 15 days. In how many days can Aryan alone do this project?

Ans: 67 ½ days.

19. A machine was purchased for Rs. 4,450 and Rs. 350 was paid for transportation. If it to be sold for Rs 6,600, then find the gain percent:

Ans: 37.5%.

20. When simple interest is calculated on a sum of money it makes itself 3/2 in 8 years. What is the rate of interest?

Ans: 6.25%.

21. Simplify- 2^65*2^70-2^97*2^38

Ans: 0.

22. Find the length of a side of a square, whose area is equal to the area of a rectangle with sides 240m and 60m:

Ans: 120 m.

23. A clerk spends 15% of his total income on house rent. He uses 60% of the remaining income to meet his expenses. If he saves Rs. 1,700, then what is his total income?

Ans: Rs. 5,000.

24. Find the amount of Rs 125000 after 2 ½ years when interest is compounded half yearly at the rate of 8% per annum (Approximate Best value):

Ans: 152081.

25. Chandni went for shopping and spent half of what she had on buying shocks and gave a rupee to a beggar waiting outside the shop. She spent half of what was left on a lunch and followed that up with a two rupee tip. She spent half of the remaining amount on a novel and three rupees on bus fare. When she reached home, she found that she had exactly Rs. 2 left. How much money did she start with?

Ans: 50.

  1. In question no. 16. answer should be 63.

    1. Not at all....If you add 27 to 63, then you will get (63+27)=90...Here the digits are not reversing.....but if we add 27 to 36 then we'll get (36+27)=63... look the digits have reversed...from "36" to "63"....so the answer will be 36.....

    1. Nope....Q 21. 2^65*2^70-2^97*2^38= (2^135-2^135)=0..... Q 22. Area of the Rectangle=Area of the Square. Hence, 240*60=(Square's Side)^2, i.e Side^2=14400...So, Side=120m....

    2^135-2^135=2^0 that is 1 nd anything having power 0 is 1

  7. 2^135-2^135=1????? (Are you kidding??)... [2^135/2^135=1] (the powers are subtracted in divisions)..... So the answer will be 0
